Jayne Sharp’s 2007 Kentucky Derby Divas Party

The Kentucky Derby has always been a great time for me. It’s usually around my birthday and I really like horses having lived in a barn for 3 years. This year I was asked to photograph Jayne Sharp’s Kentucky Derby Divas Party. It was great fun and I hope to be invited back next year.

FlashBox

In my search for flash content integration I came across FlashBox . FlashBox is a simple, unobtrusive script used to overlay images on the current page. Based on the Lightbox javascript library.

It can be downloaded from here.

FreshBooks

In my search for new billing software, I came across Fresh Books.

Their phone # is 1-866-303-6061. I spoke to Daniel from Fresh Books. They are located in Toronto Canada, but the majority of their clients are in the US. The Fresh Books development cost $430,000 and $20,000 for monthly maintenance. This online web application brings in $46,000 per month through its subscription service.

I highly recommend Freshbooks

Google Analytics Apollo Application

I have requested membership in the Google Analytics Apollo Application found at the Lab of Theseday It looks very promising as you are able to create custom reports, manage multiple accounts, automate reports and export them in different formats.

The proof of concept looks great as Nico has created a Flex application that displays the unique visits of the last 7 days.

Flash Port for Wordpress

Update This tutorial has been deprecated. Check out this method of wordpress flash integration using wordpress_wrapper. Update

I stumbled across a portage of wordpress in flash called flash-blog today. It looks very interesting and is exactly what I have been looking for. I have tried SWX, but it is still in alpha seems slow with a large database. You can check out Aral’s progress here. Allso there is Flashblog which seems promising.

Sajid Saiyed found a great way of reading wp xml data and displaying it through flash. His portfolio can be found here.

    Activating the wordpress plugin:

1.Copy the xml_output.php file to your wp-contents plugins folder.
2.Login to your wordpress admin site
3.Goto Plugins, activate the “WordPress XML output” plugin.

Installing FlashTheme for your wordpress installation.
1.Copy the entire ‘flashTheme’ folder to ‘wp-contents themes’ folder
2.Login to youe wordpress admin site
3. Go to ‘Presentation’ tab.
4. Click the ’ssdesigninteractive - FLASH 1′ theme called ‘My Flash Theme’.

PLEASE NOTE: After you activate the plugin and also activate the Flash Theme, when you try to go to the URL of your blog, you will see a BLANK SCREEN.

The reason for this is that the above changes make your blog return an XML file instead of an HTML file. So even if you see a BLANK SCREEN, if you view the source of the page, it will be an XML File.

Upload Flash Files:
- Before you copy the Flash files to your server, we need to make a small change in the FLA and republish it so that it matches the details of your server.
- Open the FLA file and go to the Second Frame actions.
- Find the line that says:

_ global . homeURL = ” http://localhost/wordpress_2/ ”

You have to modify this line so that the URL points to your wordpress installation (Location where you have installed wordpress)

Now you can publish the SWF file.

Once you have successfully completed the above steps, you can
then place the files contained in the ‘FlashBlog’ folder anywhere on your server.

Note: Best practice is to install wordpress inside a directory and place the flash files in the root.

Copy the email _ verify . php file in the ROOT location of your WORDPRESS INSTALLATION.

eg. If you installed wordpress in : yourURL.com/blog
then place the email _ verify in the same place

Go to the URL where you placed the FlashBlog files and point to the HTML file.

Installed a theme switcher to manage the changing styles. Thanks to Ryan Boren and Alex King

The non flash version can be viewed here.

Flash AS3 Papervision3D Papercloud

I’ve been working with the beta release of Papervision3D about 5 months now. I am truly humbled by its development. I have read just about every post on the mailing list and have seen some amazing things. I have learned much and its time to give back.

  3. Open \as3\trunk\examples\PaperCloud\PaperCloud.fla with Flash
  4. In Publish settings -> AS3 settings -> Add classpath: ‘../../src’
  5. Upload files to your server

I modified the bitmap files and updated the FPS meter. It is located here
